Darwin – Infestation of Cane Toads

Lots of dead Cane Toads around the billabong this morning. Someone was out with a lamp last night trying to get rid of these pests, I think. Interesting to note that the resident Whistling Kite is taking an interest in some of the carcasses – some of which are even in the water.

UPDATE – The local kids had been on Toad-bashing expedition, and good on them. It’s a bad infestation, and these Toads must have a large negative impact on local wildlife, even if it’s just competition for available food resources. And the Kites aren’t really interested in these carcasses – they’ve just left them alone to rot. Nasty!
