Camping just outside of the hamlet of Jericho in Queensland, we were delighted to have a Sacred Kingfisher (Todiramphus sanctus) join us for breakfast every morning. One of the benefits of slow camping – that is staying in a place for a while, without endlessly rushing on – is that the birds and animals get used to you, and become tamer and easier to observe (and photograph). After a few days, the Kingfisher was quite comfortable with our presence, and diving into the river, right at our feet to catch itself a feed. An amazing and wonderful spectacle to witness
Jericho, which is on the Tropic of Capicorn, is a quiet little place, but the local council has been kind enough to provide a camping spot right on the creek. There are no powered sites, but there are toilets, and water is available.

These photos were taken with a Canon R10 and RF100-400mm lens.
